Yes, you need at least one license for selling crafts.

You need a business license, a seller's permit, an EIN and also need to select a tax legal entity as described below.

You first need to select a business entity: there are 4 entities.

1. Sole Proprietor,

2. Partnership,

3. Limited Liability Co (LLC) and

4. Corporation.

Second, because your business name, "Jessie's Small-Town Craft Store" is a trade firm name, it is required to be recorded with either an LLC, a Corporation or a Doing Business As (DBA) certificate.

Third, because your business deals with crafts items, the business is subject to obtaining a seller's permit.

The seller's permit is used to buy the crafts items you see wholesale, and then it is used to collect sales tax when you sell the items.

For example, if you sell a craft item at $10, you need to collect 60 cents of sales tax and remit it to the state, which has a sales tax rate of 6 percent.

Fourth, all craft businesses are subject to obtaining a general business tax ID registration also called a business license or home occupation permit.
